A CLOUD OF WITNESSES

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let
us… run with endurance the race that is set before us.
_HEBREWS 12:1_
Anybody remember Derek Raymond? His is not a household name, but few could
forget the injured runner in the Barcelona Olympics who was helped around
the track by his father as he struggled to finish the race. No medals are
given for bravery and love, but if they were, Derek Raymond and his father
would have won the gold. The writer of Hebrews evokes just this sort of
imagery when he describes the great “cloud of witnesses” that surrounds the
Christian as he strives to finish the race of life. Who are these witnesses?
They’re those believers who have gone before us, having completed the race.
They’re heavenly witnesses. Abel is there, saying, “Nothing but the blood.
You can make it.” Moses, staff in hand, is saying, “You may feel cornered,
but God’s power will see you through impossible situations.” Gideon is
saying, “You may be outnumbered, but keep running, stay in your lane.”
Samson is saying, “Even if you’ve been caught in sin and scarred, God can
still use you. Keep on.” David is saying, “Murder…adultery…God’s seen it
all before. Seek His face again, and run your race.” When we go to an
athletic event today, we see 22 men on the field, surrounded by 70,000
armchair athletes who desperately need exercise. Not these witnesses.
They’re the real thing, not plastic saints. They’ve run the race the same
way we will…by grace. And they’ re cheering us home.

Live Wisely

“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom”
—Psalm 90:12

Let’s say that tomorrow morning you got a call from the president of your bank, and he told you that an anonymous donor who loved you very much would be depositing 86,400 pennies into your bank account every day. The only condition is that you will have to spend all of the money. You can’t carry it over from one day to the next, and what isn’t spent will be taken away. When you take out your calculator, you realize that it amounts to a lot of money each year.

How to Spot a Healthy Church in 30 Seconds

Joe McKeever

Something about those children intrigued me, but I couldn’t figure out what it was.

For the past week or two, I have noticed these three small children playing in their yard near the Mississippi River levee. Normally, in my daily walk I don’t travel as far east as their house, but recently I began lengthening the walk by another mile, trying to lose more weight. That’s when I began noticing them.

IT’S A SALVAGE OPERATION

IT’S A SALVAGE OPERATION

Several years back I was on the interstate and my car just ceased operation. The red dashboard light that says “HOT” came on, I slowed down, coasted to an exit and lifted the hood to a cloud of smoke. Not a good sign. It was a short walk to a garage that towed my car in, and the problem turned out to be a belt that had come loose. They put the belt back on, did a few other tweaks, and before you know it, my car was salvaged: it was restored to the purpose for which it was intended, i.e., for driving.

Blessings Here and Now

No Gravatar

We were blessed yesterday with the return of Pastor and Dawn after their excursion to Mississippi and around.  Thank you Lord for bringing them back to us safe.  It was good to have them back…  Then we where blessed with the presents of Teen Challenge and with the testimonies.  Which as always were moving to hear and see what God is doing in their lives,  just reinforces my favorite saying “My God is and awesome God” (I know it is Our God I just like it made personal).

There is more to come this month with the Candle Light Service  and all so please stay tuned and aware.

God Bless

“Beware of “Miracles”

Beware of “Miracles”
“For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.”—Matthew 24:24
Did you know that the devil can do so-called “miracles”? Of course, they are not the same kind of miracles that God does, but they resemble them. When Moses went into the court of Pharaoh and was performing certain signs to confirm that he was sent by God, Pharaoh’s magicians were able to duplicate a number of them, including turning water into blood. But what is interesting is that Pharaoh’s magicians were only able to duplicate some of the miracles of Moses, but certainly not all of them.
